Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure that makes teeth appear whiter and brighter. Teeth whitening is among the most popular cosmetic dental procedures because it can significantly improve the appearance of your smile.

Tooth discoloration is a common side effect of aging and also occurs when using certain medications or consuming certain foods and beverages. Professional teeth whitening is a safe and effective way to lighten teeth by several shades in just one treatment. Unlike over-the-counter kits, professional whitening treatments use stronger whitening solutions and are performed under the supervision of an experienced dentist to ensure optimal results.

WHY WHITEN YOUR TEETH?

There are many reasons why people get their teeth whitened, most of them cosmetic. Having a bright smile brightens up your entire face and makes you look younger. It’s also a great way to boost your confidence.

Getting rid of embarrassing stains and discolorations is the top reason why people undergo teeth whitening procedures. Yellow or brown spots caused by coffee, tobacco, wine, or other dark-colored substances can make your smile look dull and unappealing. These culprits can permanently stain the enamel of your teeth. Teeth whitening can remove these unsightly blemishes quickly and easily.

PROFESSIONAL TEETH WHITENING

Our dentist can whiten your teeth using two methods: in-office whitening and take-home whitening kits. The difference between the two is the strength of the bleaching agent used, where the treatment is done, and how quickly you see the results.

In-office whitening uses a concentrated bleaching gel that is only available to dentists. It is performed in the dental office and provides immediate results.

Take-home whitening uses a lower concentration of bleaching gel and is performed in the comfort of your own home. Our dentist will provide instructions on how to wear the custom trays and use the whitening gel. You will use the trays overnight or for a few consecutive nights for optimal results.

  • IN-OFFICE WHITENING

In-office treatments usually take about one hour to complete and can be used to quickly brighten the appearance of teeth that are severely discolored. Our dentist will also give you additional tips on how to maintain the brightness of your teeth for longer.

These may include avoiding highly pigmented foods and beverages like berries or coffee or following an oral hygiene regimen that includes brushing twice a day for two minutes each time and regularly flossing to remove bacteria from along the gum line.

  • TAKE-HOME WHITENING KITS

It is important that you do not purchase over-the-counter whitening products without first consulting with us. Some products are safe enough for you to use on your own, but others can cause harm to your teeth and gums if used improperly. Additionally, certain medications or substances that you take on a regular basis may interfere with how well the whitening product works.

At our office, we offer patients professional take-home whitening kits to use on their own. If you are considering purchasing a home-use whitening kit, contact our office today to schedule a consultation appointment. We can examine the condition of your teeth and help you determine whether or not a take-home whitening kit is right for you. If it is, you can use the kit as advised by the dentist in the comfort of your home.
